Parks

City and County parks offer plenty of family friendly places to play with outdoor activities including swimming, sports fields, picnic areas and walking trails. Avondale’s Friendship Park and Goodyear’s Community Park have dog parks where Fido can join in the fun.

Welcome to Estrella Mountain Regional Park.

These 19,840 acres of desert and mountains became the first regional park in the Maricopa County Park System in 1954. Located near the meeting of the Gila and Agua Fria Rivers in the southwest Valley, the park includes a large wetland, or riparian, area. The majority of the park remains pristine desert, very similar in appearance to the landscape seen by the first settlers and explorers. The Sierra Estrella range, or Star Mountains, was once within the Mexican border, and remained so until the Gadsden Purchase in 1853. Today, many amenities are available to visitors, including the only grass picnic area in the Maricopa County Park System.

Welcome to White Tank Mountain Regional Park.

Nearly 30,000 acres makes this the largest regional park in Maricopa County. Most of the park is made up of the rugged and beautiful White Tank Mountains on the Valleys west side. The range, deeply serrated with ridges and canyons, rises sharply from its base to peak at over 4,000 feet. Infrequent heavy rains cause flash floodwaters to plunge through the canyons and pour onto the plain. These torrential flows, pouring down chutes and dropping off ledges, have scoured out a series of depressions, or tanks, in the white granite rock below, thus giving the mountains their name.

Welcome to Goodyear Community Park.

Located at 3151 N. Litchfield Road, the City of Goodyear has created a 27 acre mecca for sports and recreation at their Goodyear Community Park.

The park’s amenities include seven ramadas for families that would like to come out and enjoy time away from the hustle and bustle of their busy lifestyle. There are seven barbecue grilles and plenty of room for the kids to play or to just sit back and relax.

Sports enthusiasts have been well provided for with a Little League field, two softball fields, two volleyball courts, four tennis courts and two basketball courts.

A supervised skate park is open from 7 to 10 a.m. and from 6 to 10 p.m. daily through August 30 and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. during the winter months. Hours are subject to change.

Many of the City’s special events such as Goodyear Movies In the Park, Goodyear Dry Heat Comedy Night and the Goodyear Star Spangled 4th are held at Goodyear Community Park. Visitors are invited to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets to sit on during these events. A concession stand is available to provide refreshments and there are five conveniently located drinking fountains.

Age appropriate equipment is available for the youngsters at the playground and tot area. There is also a splash pad where the kids can cool off on a hot day.

When you are ready to stretch your legs, take turn around the park on one of the easy walking trails.

You don’t have to leave Fido at home. There is a dog park where non aggressive dogs are invited to come and play.

For information on any of the facilities call City Recreation Department at (623) 882-7525 or visit the City’s website at www.goodyearaz.gov.
